What is CBT-I?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) is a first-line, non-medication treatment that addresses thoughts and behaviors preventing good sleep. Clients learn strategies to improve sleep by learning about the body’s natural sleep mechanisms. CBT-I is highly effective, with results often lasting longer than medication.

CBT-I uses a combination of cognitive and behavioral techniques to treat insomnia:

  • Cognitive Techniques:

These focus on changing negative thought patterns and worries about sleep that can prevent sleep.

  • Behavioral Techniques:

These involve changing habits and routines to strengthen your ability to fall asleep and stay asleep.

Typically requires 12-20 sessions.
